Govt. declares the truce in Kachin ,but KIA continues as Terrorist

Naypyitaw jan 21

2013 Jan 18, the state Information Committee announced that the Tatmadaw  will observe a ceasefire  in its fight with KIA with effect from Saturday 0600 myanmar time.  In order to reduce tension  in the La Ja Yang area,  the Army Chief  already promised to follow the command of the president not to carry out offensive attacks except in self-defence .  Myanmar government had been issued announcement that KIA also needs to to uphold the truce and to take part in peace talks .

Despite a ceasefire announcement have been reported from state medias and internet websites, KIA  attacked Kamaing Sub- Township Police station in Phakant township the next morning, blocked Kamaing-Mogaung and Kamaing-Phakant roads with logs. They raped the police station yard at about 8.10 am and set fire to two buildings and exploded two mines before their withdrawal from the yard at 9.50 am. Two policemen were killed and five injured in the police station rape. The rape on the police station by KIA is the second assault followed by the similar attack on 18 December that killed one police and two family members, and injured one.

At the same day, Two passenger vans and one hilux pickup were also  attacked by KIA with the use of three directional fragmentation mines at milepost 27 on Bhamo-Lwejel road at 10:45 am today. Due the attack, 22 innocent people including four women got injured.

The attacks occurred after issuing press release 3/2013 of Information Team of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on 18 January.

Police station is the places for the groups of in preventing and detecting crime , and protecting national state law and order and it is not only target place for attacking as a military base. If there were attacked by KIA , we should called it must be terrorist’s action. In an armed conflict, both sides need to halt attacks to cool tensions.

Although Tatmadaw is willing to follow on  president’s order, there wouldn’t be in  peace without KIA’s positive willing. In an armed conflict, both sides need to halt attacks to cool tensions.

Instead of all Myanmar people who want to live in peace and stability places, KIA needs to uphold the truce to help build trust between the two sides to be able to bring about the eternal peace in the country.
